Fabric Presents: DJ Marky & Friends / Med School

The queue for Marky and Friends plus Med School at Fabric was a pretty large indication that the night was set to be crammed like commuters on the 6pm Central line tubes. An array of artists including S.P.Y, Marky, BluMarTen, Lung, Joe Syntax, Breakage and Spectrasoul graced the iconic Fabric club for eight hours of some of the world’s best artists.

The experimental and sparkling glories of one of Hospital’s sister label Med School’s best signings yet, Lung penetrated the sauna of room 3. Absolutely rammed tighter than seen in a long time, MC Ruthless held the floor down in excellent fashion hyping ravers with his abundantly obvious appreciation of the situation. Lung’s own ‘Relapse’ and remix of London Elektricity’s‘Yikes’ went down an excellent treat for die hard fans and new found ears alike. Highlight of his set had to be the room erupting to Nu:tone’s masterpiece ‘Shine In’.

Armed with new releases, a spectrum of genres and sounds, Joe Syntax was next up to the decks. The energy of the room was fantastic as Joe advertised his full potential by dropping huge hits like his new ‘Signal VIP.’ Though the room’s air conditioning was severely lacking, (definitely not a good combination with the vast amount of people crushed into the tiny room) he more than compensated the crowd with a diverse acquisition of tempos. His new ‘Sightlines’ feat. Jono McCleery and remix of BCee’s Count The Stars’ had a great reaction from the crowd, who doubtlessly craved more than the hour-long set.

Over in room 1, king of the dubplates, DJ Marky had set up camp on the stage to give the crowd a better view of his insane and originally raw talent. His immense three-hour set was for sure one of those ones people will be talking about for the next year in conversations that include the sentences such as, “Did you see Marky last July turning the Technic 1210s upside down and scratch in flawless time to Hazard’s ‘Killers Don’t Die’ as if they were as light as a book?” MC DRS instructed ravers to salute Marky with ‘one hand in the air’, which just looked fabulous from the balcony.

Deep, fresh grooves washed over the room like spring after a long, cold winter as Marky blended tunes like Lenzman feat. Riya’s Open Page’, TC’s new ‘Tap Ho’ and Calibre’s classic ‘Even If’. Equipped with his Ipad, Serato and large, full bag of vinyls, Marky played one of the most assorted and eclectic selections seen this summer.   Followed by his Brazilian protégée, S.P.Y brought the night to an excellent close with the last hour and a half set including Commix’s Be True’ and his remix of Siren’sSnorkel’. All in all an incredible night brimming full of some of the best talent d&b has to offer. Only improvement would be to upgrade Med School to a larger room with better ventilation as room 3 was just too packed to accommodate the crowds pouring in to see the innovative artists. Everyone who was in attendance was not disappointed.
