Since pooling their production efforts in 2005, Finnish duo Super8 & Tab have grown to become two of the hottest names in the world of trance. Their refreshing sound found favour with Anjunabeats, who continue to release a steady stream of their acclaimed singles, and who will release their debut album later this year (Empire is the name, due out late summer). They’ve also been nominated as Best Breakthrough DJs at this year’s IDMAs in Miami, and are nothing short of national heroes.
We asked the Finnish figureheads to guide us round their hometown of Helsinki for this week’s City Guide.

Where’s the best place to eat?
Eerikin pippuri atEerikinkatu 17, 00100 Helsinki(www.eerikinpippuri.com) The best kebab in North Europe! Really good service, excellent food for low budget. An excellent choice at 4AM after clubbing.

Also Tony’s Deli at Bulevardi 7, 00120 Helsinki(www.tonysdeli.fi). Fantastic food, very chill out atmosphere. It’s always very busy so make your reservation in advance

What’s the best club in town?
Redrum for serious clubbing. Music on weekends ranges from house to progressive with international superstar DJs. During the week it’s DnB, RnB, etc. Circus or Tiger are more for mainstream dance music. Check out also big one-off events around the city like Hallmark (www.hallmark.fi)

Should we worry about dresscodes etc when clubbing there?
No, come as you are!

Where’s the best place to go and chill out?
In summer time you find people chilling out in many parks in the city like Kaivopuisto or Esplanadi. In winter time all the cafés are packed with people having hot drinks.

Where’s the best place to people watch?
Soak up the atmosphere of bars and cafes to get a feel for our Finnish people relaxing in social circles.

Is getting around easy? Good transport etc?
Transport is quite good and easy to use. Take a bus, metro or tram around the city.
If you are planning to use transport more it’s good to buy a travel card in advance to save some money.

What are the people like there / their attitudes / lifestyle?
Come over and find out! We might not be the most active people to start conversations but every one is very helpful and easy-going. Almost everyone speaks good English too.

What should you never say to a local?
“Are you Russian?” Or “Sweden is better than Finland” – this will certainly raise a few eyebrows!

Where’s a good place to buy records?
There are a few small record stores around the city which are specified to one or two music genres. Big shops like Anttila or Stockmann have their own music stores, so variety is available.

What about other shopping? Where’s good to go?
There are plenty of big shopping center like Stockmann, Kämp, Forum, or Kamppi.

What other cultural highlights would you recommend in the city?
Suomenlinna Sea Fortress -  a maritime fortress located off the coast of Helsinki which is included in UNESCO's list of World Heritage sites and is one of the most popular sights in Finland. Also the Kiasma Museum of Contemporary Art in the heart of the city.
