Brighton-based bass trio Qemists are amongst the most exciting names in the D&B scene today, having signed to Ninja Tune back in 2005 and remixed the likes of Coldcut, Roots Manuva, Kano, Lady Sovereign, Basement Jaxx, Dreadzone and some of the biggest names in D&B in the interim. Their fans range from Laurent Garnier to Andy C to Zane Lowe to Pendulum, and their triple-threat 2 deck and 2 laptop sets have been tearing the shit out of clubs recently, and providing the D&B scene with something a touch different.
They've delivered us just such a mix, cramming in an unfeasible amount of tunes in and going for full throttle, rowdy filth - so if you've got a weak heart, we suggest you go and listen to a BBC Radio 4 podcast instead...
Sum up this podcast in 10 words...3 decks of Drum and Bass in your face baby.
What’s your personal favourite track on it?Really feeling all the tracks, but if I had to choose right now, it has to be the first one - Fresh’s
Gold Dust. Hooky electro house fifth synths, punctuated by a wicked vocal lick and plenty of bass line to bust open the bins!
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?Speed. We’ve tried to make the mixing as fast as possible (31 tracks in 53 minutes).
What’s the best gig you’ve played recently? We played at Les Ardentes festival in Belgium a few weeks ago. 4000 strong crowd who we’re really loving it. Plus it was a really varied line up with The Streets, Marky, Noisia and The Mars Volta.
What have you got coming up? Our next single is out on Ninja Tune in September,
Lost Weekend feat. Mike Patton (Faith No More). Then we have a single with Wiley and our album
Join The Q early in the new year.
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers? Everything you could ever need is here: http://www.myspace.com/qemists :-)
