Although we found it hard to fathom that anyone could be so cheeky as to steal the name of one of the most influential and loved cartoon superheroes of the 1980s, the musical charm of London duo Mighty Mouse soon proved too difficult to resist. Taking the disco revival as their starting point and drafting in a myriad of electro, folk, feel-good house and Italo influences, their lovely aural patchworks have seen them become some of the most in-demand remixers around for those in the know.
Reworkings for the likes of Bent, Gorillaz, Shy Child, Robbie Williams, Roy Davis Jnr. and best of all Ali Love (a superbly euphoric rub of Love Harder) have come in quick and steady succession, plus a few tasty singles and compilations on the way (they’ve even cropped up on Hervé’s Cheap Thrills label). They’ve put together a wonderfully eclectic summer mix for us, taking us from mellow vocals to saucy dancefloor moments.
Sum up this podcast in 10 words...
Lost in Space having a drink because you don’t care.
What’s your personal favourite track on it?
I’d have to say Severed Head’s Dead Eyes Opened... it’s a classic '80s record and I love Severed Heads.
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
No rules.
What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Has to be the Social Club in Paris. We played a Modular party their a few weeks ago with The Swiss (who are the most incredible live disco band I’ve ever seen), Matt Van Schie, Frank Du Tonk, Magic Happens, House Of House and the Aikui live (who we just remixed). Amazing venue, amazing crowd, we were looked after so well. If you go to Paris you must go to this club.
What have you got coming up?
Disco Circus 2, it’s the 2nd volume of our compilation series released 6th September 2010. A combination of disco past, present and future. Lots of exclusives including our remix of Gorillaz (which will be exclusive to the CD) and some original new Mighty Mouse tracks. We’re also recording our debut album at the moment and will be doing a DJ tour in September/October to coincide with the release of the compilation.
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Enjoy the ride... oh, and the ‘close door’ button on elevators doesn’t work, it’s a trick.
