No hype, no bullshit, no inane PR chat – just great, forward-thinking electronic music. Dark Sky have kept information about themselves to a minimum – not to be completely anonymous you understand, but more to allow their spellbinding future garage flavours to take centre stage and do the public relations for them.
Their stunning Leave on the Ninja Tune XX CD was the track that first made us sit up and take notice of them, and remixes of The xx and Stateless were soon discovered to equal elation. The whole FuGa sound (that’s future garage, and yes we just invented that ridiculous abbreviation) is approaching saturation point, with lots of perfectly nice but unremarkable tracks floating around – but these guys inject a real sense of musicality into it, and always keep it darn pretty. This eclectic mix sees them skip from slow chuggers through fuzzy house and old skool flavours to their distinctive 2-step sound. Enjoy and look out for them at a DT party in early 2011…Sum up this podcast in 10 words...Recorded Live. Eclectic. Our favourite tracks right now. No faking. What’s your personal favourite track on it?Get Your Head Down by Luke Vibert. What’s the special ingredient in this mix?The special ingredient would be the mixture of different genres involved I think. From hip hop to dustup, old tracks and new - something we aim to achieve in all our DJ sets. What’s the best gig you’ve played recently? It would have to be between Trouble Vision in London or Bigger Than Barry in Birmingham. Both great receptive crowds and high quality soundsystems. 2 essential ingredients in our book. What have you got coming up?Well we're playing at Trouble Vision again on NYE (very excited) alongside Four Tet and James Holden amongst others, and next year we have a four track EP in the pipeline with Black Acre. We're also going to be releasing our track High Rise on Brackles and Shortstuff's imprint Blunted Robots in the near future. And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?Support all the excellent music in the uk right now by buying it. Vinyl is the ultimate format.
