Last summer, our Bristol sources started
banging on about some chap called Fella, or Feller, or something, playing us
some of his immaculate, ethereal future garage niceness. The tip-off was most
sage.
With his early releases
on his fantastically-named Urban Scrumping Records (it’s a West Country ting),
Phaeleh slowly built his rep up with support from the likes of Scuba N-Type,
Oris Jay, Distance, Jakes, Radio 1, 6 Music, Kiss FM and RSD, with releases on
labels like Surface Tension and Against The Grain topping sales charts and
seeing one of his tracks signed to Ministry of Sound’s commercially-released The
Sound Of Dubstep 2
compilation. This year sees him release
on Skream’s Disfigured Dubz, Soul Motive, with a stunning epic breakbeat remix
of Niki & The Dove out not so long ago too. New age garage and some more
plaintive moments make up this sleek, atmospheric podcast. We dig. Sum up this podcast in 10 words..Tunes of a garagey futuristic nature, plus a few others.
What’s your personal favourite track on it?Tricky one, DJ Madd
Bass
Come Down has been a long term favourite, but also loving a couple of new
bits from DjRum and Benton which are also in there. Now I think about it, I
can’t get enough of the Resketch remix of
Distance
by Submerse either.
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?I know the guys at Data Transmission were keen for the more
‘future garage’ sounds, so I guess I just picked out some recent tunes I’ve
been feeling where the shuffle was set to maximum.
What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?Best UK gig I’ve done in a long time was in Manchester a few
weeks ago. I always love playing there as it’s the only UK city which has the
same energy as European gigs in my opinion, and always a wicked crowd. I was
really up for it and very happy with the mixing on the night. Besides that, had
a great time in Kiev the same weekend - was amazed at how many people there
were following what I was up to, promoters smashed it in terms of the party and
everyone there was really cool to chat to and kept buying me ridiculous amounts
of vodka which is always a good thing!
What have you got coming up? I think there’s a 12” about to drop on Soul Motive with the
tracks
There Will Come Morning (feat.
I-mitri) and Reconcile (Written with VVV). My tune ‘Next Phase’ is on the
forthcoming Wheel and Deal album as well. Other than that it’s mainly a few
remixes waiting to come out, but no set dates for those yet!
And finally, do you have a special message for our
readers?Hope you enjoy the mix, and if you’re feeling the tunes go
and support the artists involved by buying some releases or even grabbing them
a beer when they’re playing in your town!
