Both a massively accomplished and producer of classics like Indicator, GODD, Red Blue Purple and the reworking of Jens’ Loops & Tings and one of the most dependable DJs in the world, Marco V is one of the most widely loved DJs to have emerged from the trance scene. The Dutch jock virtually invented tech-trance when he started dropping tracks in 2000, combining boshing, funk-fuelled techno grooves with the darker side of trance melody – but since then has continued to mix things up and pave the way for the others with a new take on the genre, like Sander Van Doorn.
There’s still occasionally flourishes of euphoric trance melody in his sets and productions, but it’s more about the sensibilities of the genre – big atmospherics, builds, drops, huge hooks – but applied to techno, electro house, prog and the ground that lies inbetween. Ahead of his headline set at our FREE Xmas Party with The Gallery at Ministry Of Sound, he mixes up a host of new productions along with some of his favourite unreleased bits and recent anthems.
Sum up this podcast in 10 words...
A mix full of my favorite tunes that i like to play at the moment.
What’s your personal favourite track on it?
It's pretty hard to pick one as they're all doing the business for me at the moment. But if you're going to twist my arm then I'd have to go for one of my own tracks called
Treviso. It's the latest track I produced, it works really well in a radio mix and it's banging when you play it live at a gig - the perfect combination ;)
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
The way I like to put a mix together, the Marco V flavour ;) I like to take different styles of music with the same feeling then blend them together with rolling beats and fat bass lines.
What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
It would have to be the Coma festival in Dubai. It was the first time they've ever had a festival out in the Middle East so it was a new experience for me (which is rare these days!) and also a privilege to be asked to headline the event. The whole thing was on an island and the only way to get there was with a 1 hour boat trip. It definitely set the scene up and created a bit of atmosphere before you'd even got there. The party itself was on a beach, gorgeous weather, a brilliant crowd, it was just amazing to play over there. I'd definitely go back there in a flash and if you get the chance to go to one, I'd completely recommend it.
What have you got coming up?
Three tracks from my forth coming album are out now and/or on promo,
Coma Aid has been doing really well in all the dance charts so that's great news for me. I am also working on the last bits and piece for the album which is going to be released early 2009. I'm not going to say too much about it but from where I'm sitting, I'm really happy with it - obviously I wouldn't put it out otherwise. Then there'll also be a new
Combi:Nations CD so it's going to be a busy 2009 but that's all good by me!
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
I hope you like the mix as much as I liked it to make this for you and hopefully see you all at The Gallery on the 12th!
