Born and raised in sunny Finland, Kiki made his name – as so many others did – when he moved to Berlin in the mid-‘90s. It wasn’t techno that brought him there per se – but an Architecture degree, with his exploration of the city’s underground electronic scene leading him into a DJ competition at Tresor with Masters At Work at judges. After making a long-lasting impression on all involved, he soon found himself playing there on the regular, as well as at other legendary clubs in Berlin like E-Werk.
It was in 1998 when he started producing with Phonique and for Ellen Allien’s acclaimed BPitch Control label that his fame started to spread across the globe, and after mixing the label’s first Boogie Bytes compilation in his sensational 3-deck stylee, his status as one of the hottest DJs and producers on the scene was cemented.
Recorded live at a recent, sensational gig in Madrid, this fine mix joins the dots between deep house, bumpy tech house, and deep, atmospheric techno. Lush indeed.
Sum up this podcast in 10 words...
The start of my summer: recorded at an amazing, sunny party at Goa in Madrid with 10,000 people...
What’s your personal favourite track on it?I really do like all of them...
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?The summer feel. Plus, though it might be personal, the memory of the party that still makes the hair in my neck stand up...
What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?Well... Goa in Madrid in may ;)
What have you got coming up?I´ll be throwing a birthday party this week at Watergate in Berlin with Danton Eeprom playing live and quite a few other talented friends (
http://www.water-gate.de ). A week later I´m very much looking forward to playing again at the Benicassim festival + after that I will be playing playing monthly at Space Ibiza for the... wait for it... Goa!
I´m also starting to tour with a live set in August, trying to do a more than just a laptop set and hopefully bring it all a bit to the next level. Between all this I´ve been very busy working on my second album, which hopefully sees the light of the day at the end of the year. More of that very soon!
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?Enjoy the summer =)
