A regular down at The Gallery, Frase has emerged over the last few years as one of the very hottest properties in the British trance scene. A superb producer for scene-leaders like Anjunabeats, Discover, Mondo, Eve, six:thirty and Vaccine, his DJ sets combine the freshest sounding tracks around with his exclusive re-edits and remixes, and he can cite everyone from Paul van Dyk to Above and Beyond to Armin van Buuren as fans.
This mix is filled with crisp, brilliantly produced tracks that combine the classier side of euphoric melody with plenty of groove and chunk – illustrating clearly how far trance has come since the post-Golden Age slump, and just how exciting the genre is in this day and age.
What’s your personal favourite track on it?
Without wanting to sound biased, the new Ornate track I've done. It's probably the best track I've done to date & the feedback its got so far has been really encouraging. So judge for yourselves!
What’s the special ingredient in this mix?
Good progression & plenty of energy at the right times!
What’s the best gig you’ve played recently?
Recently it would have to be a Ball at Durham University. It's always good to try new things & this gig was more of an intimate affair! I didn't go with much expectations but was pleasantly surprised by how clued up the crowd were!
What have you got coming up?
Production wise I've got the new Frase track on Eve called No Way Through, a new Ornate track on VACCINE Records called Strikeout and then an EP under a new guise called Hamilton which is forthcoming on Andy Moor's label, AVA Recordings. DJ wise my next date is at the infamous Inside Out night at the Arches in Glasgow. It's been a club that I've always wanted to play & given that my family history stems from Glasgow it'll be an even more poignant affair! As they say up there....'Here we fucking go!'
And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?
Work hard but play harder!
