David - Trus' Me
Could you describe your style for us?

Hard Question, I wouldn't say I had a style per se, but I would say I have my own idea when I play. My style as you would say, changes from week to week, I'm influenced just as much by new music as I am by old records. I'm all about what I feel is good music, If I find myself waking up wanting to hear it or its on replay in the car,  then I know I'm hooked and you will most likely hear it in my set. Right now I'm just loving the Jacking beat, from New Jersey to Chicago, I just can't get enough right now. You will hear this sound creep into my production also in the forthcoming LP.

You have had an incredibly busy couple of years. Have you mastered the time keeping needed to work on numerous releases, albums, your own record label and DJ schedule?

Under control? something always gets in the way, whether it be a girl or just a new crave or direction in my life. The key to successfully juggling each project,  is to have gifted and like minded people around you at all times.  Split the work load and offer a percentage of what you created to others who are willing and eager to step into your shoes. I was lucky to discover early on that you can't have it all, with this frame of mind I quickly progressed and I owe this to my friends and work colleges, as much as I do too myself .

How are things shaping up with label and do you enjoy the curating side of things?

Yes my main job with the label is the A&R side. I work with new and current artists to maintain the sound on Prime Numbers and help the label progress and grow musically and physically. These days I take as much satisfaction selecting a winning track from the roster, as I do producing my own material. The label has many new acts for 2011 and a new series entitled '12" cuts'. 180 gram Vinyl , with one fat track either side, just like they use to do back in the day.  Also new LP's from myself,  Linkwood and also Fudge Fingas towards the end of 2010.

Your remixes have been in hot demand. If you could remix any record what would it be?

I love to take records that you wouldn't normally even attack and make something completely different. Too many remixes these days are more or less the same track but new drums, I don't see the point in this. You should offer something new for the listener and the label that's what you're being paid for. There is talk of a collection of my remixes being complied as a LP, this will be towards the end of 2010 early 2010 so look out for this.

You have now released 2 acclaimed albums. Can you describe the process that goes into it?

I work fast and quick when it comes to an LP, this way you keep a cohesive sound and frame of mind. I literally sit down and work out how each track is going to sound and how is will all work as a project. PLanning keeps me motivated as if I become loss with the direction I have took I can always refer back to my initial thoughts. The rest is hard craft endless nights and dedication to complete what you have stated, I always work to a  time frame this way there is a finishing line as music can be endless you can always nip this in and twist that. I like to work out who will guess vocal also and this can determine the sound or genre I will create. Even after two LP's it's always a learning curb but you have to push yourself or you don't progress, some people may say I push my sound too much but for me it's all part of the music showing where you came from and where you're going.

How can you see the music industry changing over the next 2 years?

It's scary for everyone, I'm quite lucky as the label still kicks on but I see labels come and go. I really don't know but my motto is too make as much music now before it's too late. There will always be the the underground, This collective will always search for the real thing, so I'm not that afraid, I have faith.
You’re a clearly open minded with your music and I think this shines through in both your performances and releases.

Do you have any desire to produce music outside of house?

I love the golden era of Hip Hop it's still my first influence, just waiting for the fashion to come around (please god let it come around). I intend to work on a new project which I guess is more techno for 2011, where I plan to work with another partner, I love the ideas that are created when two people are in the same room. I want to push this side right now this is where my heart is, music was originally many musicians in one room jamming, so why not in the electronic scene?

When did you get serious about producing and Djing?

I guess when people started noticed what I was doing. You can sit in your room all day making beats and maybe be the best who ever lived, but if you don't get off your arse and make something hapen, then that's all you'll ever be, a bedroom producer.  In all things in life I try to push as long and as hard till I achieve what I set out to do.  You Only need one person to give you that break and when is happens grab it with everything  you have and make it happen.

How do you feel your sound has evolved from your first release on Still?

Yeah I was a music enthusiast who turned producer, you grow and learn overtime you sit down to your equipment. I started with deep jazz  house mindset and currently I'm all up on the stripped down groove of house. Everyone grows differently, I just seem to work the opposite way round. I guess you could say it's quite unique when you look at it like that.

Do you think you fully realised all your potential now as a producer?

Not at all! I feel I have it in me to make that one track that crosses all boundaries and I wont stop till I achieve this. I don't think any producer can say yes I know it all now, how can you? theres always something new to learn, whether it be a new style of music or a way of producing. That's what I love about this whole thing so much,  you can can always keep pushing on in the world of music.

What tracks and remixes do you have forthcoming both personally and on Prime Numbers?

Linkwood LP, Fudge Fingas LP and numerous 12"s on the '12"Cutz series'. Very soon I will also release my own LP 'Dark Light' on Prime Numbers. Remixes right now I'm taking a break, as I want to concentrate on my own sound for now.
