Although the more experimental, deeper side of dubstep undoubtedly gets more column inches, the breadth of the genre should not be forgotten. Specifically, the polished, guttural sounds of tear-out, hard-hitting, filthy-bassed dubstep still gives us a lot of pleasure – as long as it’s done with plenty of skill, gusto, innovation and finesse. George Lenton is doing just that with his releases on rowdy label Wicky Lindows, and his impressive bootlegs of the likes of MGMT and Daft Punk.
Not for the fainthearted, he pushes a razor-sharp sound that’s full of colorful sounds, tight beats and seriously brooding bass. When you just need to stomp the fuck out of the dancefloor, there’s few doing a better job. If you’re a fan of Doorly, you’ll love what he’s doing.
How and when were you first infected by dance music??
Last week. I’m ok now though.
When did you start making music / producing, and how long was it before you started making tracks that you were really happy with?
I started producing around 2 years ago. I guess I’m still trying to make tracks that I’m really happy with, but if there is an answer to the question it’s around 2 years (and counting...)
What have been your personal favorite tracks / productions so far?
Of my own? Of whats out there guess I was happy with the way Price turned out. The Weekend Wars remix worked. A recent track I’ve done called San Angel.
Where does your name come from?
Apparently it’s of Greek origin.
Who would you most like to work with?
Many people. Anyone whose music has character I guess. Björk would be in there.
What have you got in store for the coming months?
In the coming months there are a few remixes coming out, as well as a couple more original releases. I have a few things bobbing about at the moment.
What can we expect from one of your DJ sets or live sets?
At the moment I’m just having fun with the DJ sets. I used to do turntablism a few years back, so I still have quite a cut and paste / choppy sort of style when I play. I get bored pretty easily, so flit between genres quite a lot.
If you weren’t a DJ/producer/artists, what would you be?
Journalism, philosophy, studying some subject or another as much as time will allow.
Which other producers and DJs and artists do you really rate?
Many. I haven't been to many DJ nights for quite a while, but I’m fairly sure Scratch Perverts would still be one of my favourite acts. Artist-wise, I recently saw a group called Fat Freddy’s Drop, and recommend everyone gets hold of a copy of their latest album, it’s a big grower.
