About bloody time! Scientists have invented a sort of 'wireless electricty' which will hopefully one day render power cables useless.
The technologoy, developed by a company called PowerBeam, would allow you to charge devices like mobile phones and computers without the need for cables and plugs - sending the current through lasers.
David Grahamp, co-founder of PowerBeam, told The Observer: "We're going to delete the word 'recharge' from the English dictionary. If your cellphone is recharging on your desk all day, you won't be thinking about it." They envisage the emergence of 'electricity hotspots', similar to WiFi internet hotspots, for charging devices when you're out and about.
They demonstrated their technology at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week, using it to power speakers and digital photo frames.
Excellent news. Hopefully this will eventually extend to the ability to have raves in remote locations without a bloody generator.
