The remaining two-thirds of legendary rap outfit Run DMC (Joseph "Run" Simmons, Darryl "D.M.C." McDaniels FYI) are set to reunite this summer for a special event in Philadelphia curated by The Roots.
It would be the first time the duo have performed together since the murder of their lynchpin Jam Master Jay back in 2002. The Roots’ ?uestlove teased out the information via a video on his Twitter page recently.
"If you were at the festival last year, you will notice that The Roots lived out their fantasy of doing the classic 'It Takes a Nation of Millions' album with Public Enemy” he said. “
Are we going to top that? We are absolutely going to top that. This is a reunion we thought we would never get." "We've been waiting to make this reunion happen for the longest, it's so incredible, I don't even want to tell you who it is. This is all I'm gonna say..." at which point he put a trademark Run DMC gold chain around his neck and did the classic arms crossed pose that the trio favoured.
The event in question is called Roots Picnic and is set to take place on June 5th.
