Featuring some of the loveliest, lushest liquid D&B around, with the likes of Blame, Lenzman, BCee and S.P.Y in the mix, the Moodswings 2 compilation is a testament to Spearhead’s success so far. Expect crisp beats, gorgeous vocals, orchestral riffs, warm, oozing basslines and plenty of textured atmospherics.
Kicking off with Blame on the remix duties with L.A.O.S’s We All, the orchestral flourishes, disco-esque strings, anthemic house vocals, and synth-driven horn riff gets Moodswings 2 off to a breathtaking start. With the Logistics remix of BCee’s Consumed, a few tracks in, things only get better, it would seem. This little beauty hits you with a slab of warm, undulating bass; it’s gorgeous and gutteral, with gentle rolling breaks, sonorous vocal snippets and tinkling piano chords.
Redeyes’ Cruise Ship To The Stars is given a hard, sinister edge by Chris SU, as thumping beats, twinkling synths and tense-sounding strings give way to a nasty, bass-ridden tune. A nice dose of the dark-side never goes amiss, especially when it’s followed by a lovely touch of Brazilian producer, S.P.Y’s, Sunship, which balances the selection out beautifully, as things get a bit hazy and experimental with bubbling synths, echoing vox and a serious, rolling b-line pulling it along.
BCee’s Glitter Balls from this recent Generations EP has to be given a special mention here, as Redeyes and Lenzman soften up the original and give it a smoother re-lick here. Finishing up with a deep, progressive feel with Lenzman’s Bright Lights – a minimal, rolling track, with building instrumental undertones and rattling breaks. Matrix is given the final word, finishing off the album with his vocal-driven remix of Redeyes Luv & Haight; building nicely with some jaunty orchestral stabs and soulful lyrics, it finishes the album off calmly, subtly and poignantly. Just as you’d expect from Spearhead.
Absolutely superb – buy it, listen to it, cherish it.
