Deep Frankfurt titans Motorcitysoul never really fail to disappoint, crafting anything from the prettiest of deep house to storming wiggly techno with their trademark organic sound. This time, for Will Saul’s Simple, they seem to have set out to make a real mark.
Much like Ame’s Setsa, this is a stomping hands-in-the-air deep house tune that wants to be noticed and definitely succeeds in doing it. Its moody bassline is its spine, while the crisp meaty percussion works really well. The bassline rises and rises, often filtered and played with while high pitched short synth stabs and a hands-in-the-air build up in the middle give this a bit of an ‘epic’ feel. The production is wonderfully detailed and I’m sure this is going to get a big reaction on many a dancefloor. If the two Germans have set out to make a ‘big’ tune, they’ve pretty much succeeded here.
Of the remixes, Roman Flugel is a tech house stomper, punctuated by invasive stabs and hissy percussion, while his Desperate Dub remix is a deep plodder with some very sexy subtle tribal drums. They’re both solid, but a mere compliment to the main show.
