Solomun - Dance Baby (Remixes)

When a prolific album like Solomun’s Dance Baby hits the stores, in many cases the only thing more exciting than browsing through and getting a feel for the album itself is the growing anticipation of the second wave of excitement: the remixes. In Dance Baby’s case, Solomun gets to call the shots on both ends, as head of Diynamic and as producer of the album. And as expected, he couldn’t have picked two artists more suited for the task, than Joris Voorn and Gorge; two of 2009’s most prolific remixers / producers.
To say that Joris Voorn has found his perfect formula with his recent ‘Dusty House’ series would be a vast understatement. In typical ‘Dusty’ fashion, Joris has created a dancefloor beast. He’s taken some of the most functional original stems from After Rain Comes Sun - it’s luscious pads - and utilized them in a way to maximize the groove-factor of the completely new tune that he’s created in this case. His remix gets down to business quickly, and with the timely addition of effected and delayed funky vocal stabs and filter sweeps, it couldn’t possibly be more now. This one is sure to garner plenty of support, but if you're looking to hear something new and innovative, you'll likely find yourself shaking your head with discontent.

On the flip, we have Gorge; the man partly-responsible for yet another one of 2009’s biggest trends; loopy deep house. The Cecille and 8bit honcho's tongue-in-cheek take on Boys In The Hood’ moves just as well as Joris’, yet in far less dramatic fashion. Groove is the general focus here, with bubbling percussion leading the way, while slick ‘yo mama’ jokes float on top, adding a bit of humor to the soiree of serious deep house that’s on display. This recipe has been tried and tested many times by Gorge, both on the dancefloor and in the record shops.

All in all, nothing new is going on here; but one really can't go wrong with Joris and Gorge at the healm. Both of these remixes do their intended job on the dancefloor, so at the end of the day, that's what makes it a winner.
