Yousef - Firecracker / I Suggest

Circus man Yousef gets all loopy on Firecracker here – low-slung funk with beats that make your hips wiggle and a looping flute that bores inside your head like a hypnotic snakecharmer. A housey groove, but with techno attitude. Label boss Nic Fanciulli steps up for the remix and absolutely kills it, with skippy old skool house hi-hat patterns, hazy Detroit stabs filtering up and down, and booming, sassy bass whipping the whole thing into shape.
 
Yos pitches in with a second track on the flip, I Suggest, which is arguably stronger. It’s a tighter, more driving groove, with some great rolling percussion and some brilliantly warped horn and vocal sounds in the break. Chunky and funky, a good EP all round.
