VA - Work It Baby 10th Anniversary

Work It Baby, as you might have guessed, was begun in 2000 by Kris Menace as a way to get a few of his friend's tracks out and has since been home to some of the most prolific and respect artists on the scene. Patrick Alavi, Charlie Fanclub and Lifelike all get a run out on this packed 35-track 2-CD compilation.

Quality is, of course, more important than quantity, but with such well-constructed disco house, the fact that there is hours worth of listening means that you can submerge yourself in it and never have to worry about coming out. The first CD consists of all-but-one unreleased tracks, highlights being, sensual master Fred Falke and Savage's I'm In Luv which transcends decades, and Charlie Fanclub's subtly brilliant Cream Soda. Jaunt provides a balearic soaring disco track in the shape of Evolver while Vincent's Jim Jam touches more on dubbed electro and is probably the most club-ready track on the CD. 

The second CD selects the best of previously released tracks from their crop, ranging from chilled disco, to flat-out electro funk. There is no point looking at the individual songs on a compilation, especially one celebrating 10 years, it is much more worthwhile considering the project as a whole and taking in the flow of the track and the erstwhile selection. As far as that goes, Work It Baby, have put together a timeless compilation perfectly suited to demonstrate a decade's work. A must-have for any who has lived any part of the 'noughties' whatsoever.
