One of the unsung Discover heroes, Finland’s Peetu S makes his Kill The Lights debut with this much more melodic outing, although his trademark steely, tech elements remain.
The Before the Sunset Mix of Footprints is a curious beast indeed. At a lower tempo than his usual stuff, Peetu uses a chunky almost bongo style drum with some glistening percussion to set the scene, before a farty hook heralds the guitar strums and floating melodies. The main break is perfect for those precious few pre-sunset minutes, with the warm pads and plucked strings working to perfection, and there’s a atmospheric yet indecipherable vocal sample tucked away in there too.
As you’d expect, the After the Sunset Mix is a driving, tougher more tech-trance affair. The kick and percussion have been bolstered, and the bassline is faster and harder too. Some darker, nocturnal effects are added and the lush main melodies are held back until the middle break, but the contrast of the harsher synths makes this work just as effectively as the first mix. Surely with more releases of this quality, this Finn won’t fly under the radar much longer?
