Guy Gerber has been molding his Supplement Facts imprint into his own work of art since 2007; concentrating on every minute detail, all the way down to the label's amazing cover arts. Supplement's latest Facts come from Spectral Sound's Ryan Crosson and Desolat badboy, Guti, who give us You've Got Me, and impressive two-tracker that succeeds in it's mission of maintaining the label's high level of quality output.
Both Crosson and Guti have followed a similar path in sound over the past year (as many others have as well), moving gracefully from murky, blippy minimal; over to deeper waters, heavily polluted by Chicago. On the A-side, the duo is joined by guest vocalist Don Fuego, in You've Got Me. The mix of musical minds is displayed well in this late-night, heads down-then-hands-up stormer. As with the majority of today's music, the groove is infiltrated with cut-up vocal snippets from the onset, as a catchy b-line and furious hook slowly bubble to the surface. The filter frequencies are slowly released, leading into a massive breakdown which allows Don Fuego's infectious vocals to grab hold of you. This is the hands-in-the-air moment for a tune which is more likely to become the flavor of the week than to be placed in the classics bin.
The B-side, Marimbaby, takes a completely different route; focusing it's efforts instead on a swaying, latin-fueled rhythm. Bongos and glass-like percussion bounce along in a heads-down, summery groove that provides us with some much-needed warmth during this cold and treacherous winter.
