Kid Kola - Kappa Kappa / Rizzo

Supported by the likes of Annie Nightingale and DJ Zinc, and with a support gig for Laidback Luke at London's Matter under his belt, you would expect Kid Kola's latest release to be a refined piece of confidence-strewn dance. Sadly, it is more a convoluted affair which is frankly, a little stale and dull.
Kappa Kappa stumbles between the distorted electro of years gone-by with hints of ineffectual disco. Even the press release fails to get across a positive slant on the track. A lazy structure is let down further by a poor attempt at a hook in the shape of rumbling synth. The production does not feel fresh and the make-up of the song, unimaginative. The Last Japan remix adds purpose to the song with a crisp bass kick and a 'wobble' take on the synth but still fails to make much of it.
Riptide attempts the same re-working on the droll five minute Rizzo but there is even less to work with. Kid Kola does not seem to lack the ability to make music but he is yet to find his true calling. The remixers do their best but nothing to write home about is yielded. Hopefully, a few years on the circuit and a bit more time in the studio will see the 21-year-old find his groove.
