Another collection of deep house delights here from the on-form Freerange Records, but not one that grabbed me as an overall collection.
Jimpster goes delightfully deep on Milton Jackson’s now-classic Rhythm Track – deep with the bass and minimal amounts of melody, but keeping the percussion lively enough – and Nikola Gala presents loopy, rolling funk on I Get U. Jimpster’s hazy Sleeper has a meandering, jazzy undercurrent, and Andre Lodemann’s Still Dreaming creates a tense mood from a seemingly simple set up, with Ethyl & Flori’s Tanqueray bringing skippy garage rhythms, deep undulating bass and hazy chord stabs to the table.
The compilation closes with a twist, with Vincenzo & Elmar Schubert slowing the bass to a lazy 4/4 chug and dubby delays on Wanna Love You. Disco given a valium, and a tiny bump of ket. There’s a few beauts on here but for us it’s more a case of just download the best bits rather than buy the CD. Although it would probably work out at the same price....
