Nadja Lind - Sunspots EP

The latest single on Klartraum’s Lucidflow imprint sees Nadja Lind, the yin half of the German duo, deliver 4 fine tech cuts alongside a remix by her yang counterpart Helmut Ebritsch.

Voyage kicks off with its dreamy and shimmery synths, which set a deep and moody tone for the EP. The infectious bassline and solid kick then join in to propel the track forward in a rolling manner, rendering a fluid and immersive sonic cruise for the listener.

The shattered robotic murmurs and swirling spacey synth waves on Sunspots then create a futuristic and sci-fi feel. Its subtly-built progression resembles that of Voyage, but thanks to the resonating radiance of the synths and FX, it has an even trippier effect.

Pancake is arguably the closest to the tracks on the previous EP Mainzelgroove by the duo, as the bold kick, gritty bassline, and metallic stabs generate an edgy and mechanical groove

Strandzeit then goes a bit housier, with the finely-tweaked chunky tech house percussions and the mellow yet spacey chords weaving a deep and delicately-textured soundscape, and thus supplying the EP with some pleasant variety.

Finally, rounding off the single is Ebritsch’s remix of Voyage, which retains the smooth and pensive quality of the original whilst having a lightened feel through its snappy beats and driving synth riffs.

Like Mainzelgroove, this single is characterised by its highly precise and neat arrangement. Whereas in the review on Mainzelgroove we mention that variety is key to the development of the duo’s deep and minimalist style, with this comparatively softer and more melodic EP they – especially Lind in this case – have vividly showcased not only their edgy production skills as usual, but also their potential to evolve. Looking forward to the next surprise from them.
