Whilst we like Agoria’s
Balance 016 compilation (read the review
here), the latest EP on his InFiné label -
Roller Coaster by French duo Spitzer - has also caught our ear.
Kicking off this 3-tracker is the title track’s Detroit-influenced mechanical beats, whose relentless and driving progression is adorned with slices of emotive synth lines that intensify gradually and surge in the high-tensioned, energising breakdown before the final section arrives.
Sir Chester also features an unrelenting tech rhythm, yet with the warm and fluid synth riffs on top of it the track flows in a classier and more melodious manner, creating a more prog-techno-hybrid-sounding vibe.
On
Too Hard To Breathe, arguably the best track of the EP, American singer Kid A delivers a Bjork-esque, melancholically affecting vocal, which inextricably couples with the intricate breakbeat and lush melodic layers to render an epic soundscape and round off the EP in a sublime fashion.
With the top quality of this single and the fact that previous efforts of both Spitzer and Kid A have been featured on the InFiné label boss’
Balance compilation, it is likely that more collaboration between them will ensue in the future.
