I never liked Moby. I once read an interview with him where he explained a game he invented called 'knob touch'. It involved touching people at parties with his penis without their knowledge, and therefore without their consent. And that's basically rape. A bit.
Anyway, this single, Alice is fairly dreary. I found myself in the kitchen doing the washing up about a minute into the radio edit. Not a good sign. Music to wash up to: wicked. It comprises a sort of flobbery flabby bass sound that's just dull, some utterly uninspired hip-hop beats and quite an irritating man MCing about "thoughts being boollets" (whatever they are) over the top.
The only reason I'm not going to give it 1/10 on the spot and stop writing is the included remixes. They're not exactly amazing either but they deserve to be distinguished from the original track.
Drop the Lime's Heavy Bass Remix does what it says on the tin - just about. It's maybe twice as good as the original tune. Noisia's effort sounds a lot like any other Noisia tune, i.e. pretty accomplished D'n'B with some nice production frills here and there. It bangs pretty hard at the end and is about 7.8 times better than Moby's original track. The best remix of the bunch is by General Midi. It's a good fun dancefloor electro stomper with some great breakdowns and it's 10 times as good as the original tune.
In order to quantify a single mark out of ten for this I've marked each one and then calculated an average. Unfortunately Moby's 0/10 pulls this average down. It's interesting to observe that in this CD of remixes, it might have been wise to omit the original track.
