Loughborough based tech house label Lost My Dog has consistently impressed me in recent years, with a few tracks figuring large in my sets consistently. But I didn’t realise quite how many great tracks they’ve released, and how many great names they’ve featured along the way.
This half-a-decade mix is fantastic from the word go, kicking off with the summery garage flow of Yse feat. Beckford’s lovely Worry and the analog funk of Jay Tripwire’s Everytime. Harold Heath’s Streets Keep Rocking is a fail-safe track for me, laden with slap bass and quirky synths plus a great vocal hook that all combine to make something with real character and attitude. Not your average house track. Some smooth Milton Jackson follows before Yse’s cute wiggler Bounce Back and another label highlight, Jay Tripwire’s gorgeously uplifting Harmony & Peace, deep of bass and snappy of beat. Hot.
Nacho Marco’s remix of Pete Dafeet’s Alto keeps the pressure up with spicy shakers and a lovely wobbling riff, a seriously seductive track that bumps and probes in all the right places, before we’re pulled into deeper climbs with Burnski’s naturally wonked-up remix of Nick Dare’s Dub People. Fred Everything’s remix of Pete Dafeet’s Lungs provides a melancholy bump, and things are kept deep with the excellent Atnarko and Wiggle legend Nathan Coles putting in appearances. Acid comes into the mix with Kelvin K’s Gershon Got It Poppin’ and Tommy Largo’s awesome bubbler Come On, and the smokey rolling weirdness of Adam B’s Smoketoke (aptly named) makes for a classy finale
The mixes are a little sparse at points, but the quality of the music on here is so high that you can more or less forgive that. A solid collection from one of the loveliest labels in house.
