Butch - Apophis

Entitled Apophis, the latest single from Dubfire’s SCI+TEC Digital Audio imprint offers two dark and pounding techno cuts by Butch and Ramon Tapia.

The former’s original mix is kick-started by a throbbing and powerful bassline, which soon interlocks with the warped sirens and industrial tech percussions. A sonically dazzling layer of synth then emerges out of the cavernous soundscape at around midsection, pushing the high energy level even further.

The remix by Tapia retains the relentless bassline of the original whilst giving some twists to render a comparatively less menacing feel. Driving acidic synths are infused into the intense breakdowns dynamically, which should manage to excite the crowd quite effectively at peak-time.

For those who wonder what the title of the EP means, it is in fact the Greek name of an evil god in Egyptian mythology. According to wikipedia, it was “the deification of darkness and chaos (isfet in Egyptian), and thus opponent of light and Ma’at (order/truth).” Quite an indicative title indeed.
