Gray/Harris/Massive/Obernik - Home

Ticking off an acid line giving sweat glands a tickle, sunshine pianos of a slammed down strength, and Latin guitars that are very Ruff Driverz Dreaming to spice up the scenery, there are as many cooks overseeing the broth of the Ibiza-primed Home as there are collaborators. It does feel that there are too many elements getting in the way of Sam Obernik doing her sensual slant of a lopsided croak, and it’s her strained vocal chords that put listeners more at ease than Kid Massive, Michael Gray and Paul Harris trying to get their best shots in first. There’s a classiness within, but maybe a layer too many to the cake.

Daley Padley, the comparative unknown of the bunch despite being in the remix game since 2006, drops a stripped down tribal dust-shaker that puts Obernik in an eerily dominant light and learns a quick lesson of less being more. It certainly wipes away the sheen of all around with an approving techno-headedness. Gray makes use of the guitar on build-ups and breakdowns before detaching with a prodder of a throb that wants to be friendly after a distant set of opening exchanges. Harris looping the six strings with a bit of a broken beat fidget allows breath-catching downtime as something to recline to, Obernik joining in by skimming the pianos and stretching herself along the lounger.
