The producer’s producer Gorge is as consistent as the taxman, deep as a ravine (ahemm gorge) and funky as a horn section. Listen to a Gorge track on 8-Bit, Plastic City or Systematic and you know you’ll get a quality production. Gorge shows out here for his friend Marc Romboy’s label Systematic with three cracking deep tech-house tracks, driving and accessible, credible to boot.
Humming Fireflies is a Gorge further education in how to groove. Crisp percussion, layered vocals, deep bassline, thumping kick drum and no rush to get anywhere at all. The synth melody steps it up a notch, the pads another and back to the groove. Sublime.
Time Flies indulges those with purist ears with its deep house synths and unrelenting syncopation. Providing some variation from the other two tracks, this one is for those who live deep underground.
The final track Houseflies is Gorge at his driving best. Solid from the start, percussive and beautifully arranged to groove you into submission before dropping some vocal business into the breakdown “build me up” the vocal says [maybe]. It does. Slammin’. Great EP, great producer. You know what to do.
