Subwave - Road Rage / Ubikz

Russian D&B producer Subwave unleashes two big tracks on Metalheadz here, encouraging hype for his forthcoming debut album.

Although Road Rage reaches some heavy beats in places, it doesn’t quite reach the heights of full-on drum and bass, but instead plays with its 2-step brother. A tech-house intro builds up your anticipation, the volume of the bass continually being lifted and dropped in the background, until the reverberating ‘wobs’ of the sub-bass creep in. Another drop in the middle leaves only the throbbing bass to pound your chest, the techno sci-fi to tingle the ears, and the ‘cmon’ vocal samples making you bow down to Subwave’s contagious beats.

Straight in with quiet drum and bass beats, you know there’s going to be a build up somewhere soon on Ubikz. This track has more of a trance feel to it, with the echoing synths and samples dancing above the almost jungle backdrop. The track builds and builds upon its layers, adding more and more futuristic trance synths into the mix, before quietening the drum beats to leave the synths floating and echoing until the drum and bass grasps them and pulls them back in line. I can really see someone playing with this track and mixing things up even more, but overall it's another great track from the Russian.
