Aufgang - Dulceria

As the duo inch towards the centre spotlight of cutting-edge French electronica, Aufgang’s Dulceria (which apparently means ‘Candy Store' in Spanish) seems a step in the right direction. The original mix, seven-minutes of piano-led electronica, is still the best of all the mixes on offer. With its filtered vocal hook, numerous change in key and striped-down piano finale, the track is a brilliant electro-tinged slab that harks back to some of Sébastien Tellier’s finest material. This is almost certainly going to be one of the tracks that does the business across numerous dance floors this autumn.

Of the two remixes, it is Warp’s Christopher Clark who delivers the most interesting offering. Stripping back the piano keys, loosing most of the warped vocals and replacing them with a drum led track sprinkled with blippy vocoder sounds, the track becomes even more strange and danceable. Incredibly well produced, the track sounds ethereal without weirding things out completely.

Berliner Akiko Kiyama’s remix is just as solid, but more dance floor orientated. A 4/4 drum track denotes the rhythm and a minimal approach is taken, offering the original’s charm one layer at a time. The bonus remix of Aufgang’s Good Generation by Team Ghost is less dance-floor orientated than anything else on offer. It’s a dreamy, supple and smooth listening experience (if a little too inoffensive at times).

All in all a very solid EP, with the original track sure to be one of the biggest electronica hits of the forthcoming season - both on the blogs and in the clubs.
