Jean Claude Ades & Vincent Thomas - Shingaling

The frequently inspired Jean Claude Ades teams up with his pal Vincent Thomas for what can only be described as Latino-electro-house-banger. No other description. We start off unassumingly with springy, gurgling electro bass stabbing over the tautest of all congas, before some filtering, salsalicious horns appear, paving the way for the main, obese, kooky bassline. Snippets of a Spanish vocal twist in and out, before we’re dropped into a glorious, full on Buena Vista Social Club style “breakdown” – feisty and fiery, and allegedly recorded live with a 15-piece band especially for this track. Then BOOM! Back down into the filth. Repeat to fade. A big summery anthem – drop this at the right place, at the right time, in the right weather, and carnage will surely ensue.

I just do NOT get Martin Eyerer these days. I liked his old stuff and still like some of his collabos – but this mix just typifies him for me. Everything that is wrong with minimal music. Luckily label boss Rainer Weichold most certainly knows his onions, and delivers a juicy groover with sexy undertones – with a subby b-line riddim very very similar to Marco Carola’s remix of Mumbling Yeah – but with the added bonus of a big old build-up/breakdown ting going on and some ripping dirty noises. Oh and sleigh bells! Great fun.
