K90 - Hyper Intelligence 2008

Tune alert! No wild flutter here, the Ian Betts remix embodies all that’s good about trance, and has to be one of the remix/remakes of 2008 to date. With the plethora of old trance anthems getting trotted out for remixes by all and sundry, it’s nice to see a less well known track being dusted down and reincarnated.

This remix is epic, emotive, driving, hands in the air trance, the kind of tune that gets you back on the dancefloor at 6.30AM when your legs are ready to give way. Betts takes the melodies from the original track, about the only elements he retains, drops the tempo and smoothes away the edges, adding a solid kick to a driving bassline, with some swirling proggy effects. The breakdown hits the mark too, with the beats merging flawlessly, surging the track on to its peak. This is a great production, which should appeal to all fans of quality big-room trance.

The original '99 mix is a good hard trance track, if not sounding a little dated now, which is unsurprising as you’d think it was made in 1999, even though I think it was released on Recover in 2001 with Colours. The track features standard K90 hard trance beats, with a somewhat waspish riff, but that amazingly uplifting breakdown.
