Jack Digitals return for their 20th release with a full EP from Dan Van Damn who has been having some significant success on the remix circuit as well as on JD’s own label.
The title track Who Gave ManMachine the Acid is an acid drenched, phat analogue bassline tech-house monster. DVD’s brilliant trademark percussion melody underpins the groove, which consists of an old skool acid house bassline transforming its way from deep and chunky to screaming 303 acid. Its sweaty dance floor fodder in the best tradition of acid house brought bang up to date with a tech twist - a heavyweight groove.
For me Incarnate is the stand out track with its interesting percussion noises, rumbling bassline and stretched vocoder style effects leading into the main arrangement. It’s a moody 10 minute banger, but you can see this crossing over to prog house territory (as well as tech house floors) and going down well in a club like Fabric.
Killer Wave completes the trio, a deep, grooved out, string laden piece of deep techno interspersed with some big, sound system testing sub bass. Perfect for warm ups or for one of those indulgent 3am moments.
All in all a solid EP with some really interesting production techniques. Thoroughly recommended and with support from Josh Wink (amongst others) it’s gotta be worth a look – play it LOUD!
