Ultra-cool Dessous strike gold with long-term contributor and Berlin DJ Vincenzo. I love this label but I can’t always programme the deeper offerings into a set. ‘The Resident’ is entirely different; managing to keep its ‘deep’ integrity whilst being a raise the roof stormer. Right from the outset the heavy kick tells you it means business whilst the analogue bassline and undulating counter melody start building a bottom-heavy, infectious groove. It’s subtle in it’s arrangement building slowly, adding layers one by one, until suddenly – you’re rocking in a monstrous bass-heavy groove. The break takes it down to nothing and slams back into the groove. Massive.
Strangely the press release seems to understate this record. Perhaps Dessous don’t realize they have a monster on their hands.
Expect the big jocks to be on this, but this will cross over to the electro boys too. An absolute gem of a record. If you like your deep tech this is a must buy.
