DJ T - The Inner Jukebox

Having just reached his 40th birthday, you might think that Get Physical boss DJ T might be diverting his attention away from the dancefloor and towards something more…well, MOR? Indeed, the intro title track washes over you with its dubby beatlessness and satisfying swathes of deep sub bass – sublime Balearica that Salt Tank would be proud of. But this aside, it’s mostly business as usual and just as you’d expect it.

Dis is solid tech house, clicky and throbby and sexy all at once, Bateria lays down some chunky tribal rhythm, and Mr. Pianohands is a highlight – a sorrowful yet uplifting piano chord line injects some more of that Ibizan magic into a shuffling, deep tech house jacker

Rituality at first seems like a pretty run-of-the-mill tech house groover, but gradually fragments of strings cut into the mix with a simple piano melody, creating a heady, atmospheric, lush and organic sound that has a haunting Detroit edge to it. Combined with some galloping wooden percussion, it makes for a very cool track. Switch bounces along like Richie Hawtin in a housey mood,

There are probably a few too many run-of-the-mill tracks which fail to stick in the mind thanks to their lack of hook, quirk, vocal, strong melody or rampant groove – so perhaps a mixed version would have worked better. Regardless, there are some wonderful tracks hear that show that Mr. T’s not dealing with any kind of mid-life crisis.
