Atomic Hooligan - I Don't Care

Dance music applies great pressure to get the crossover/vocal track right without self-compromise. The pop charts have greater pull than ever nowadays, and Atomic Hooligan suggested that they’d come close to nailing the chart-breaks formula on ‘You Are Here’ and last year’s ‘Papercuts’. ‘I Don’t Care’ is another step to sneaking through the mainstream’s back door, featuring whiny but purposeful vocals (Thom Yorke’s not the greatest comparison, but it’ll do for now). The bubbling synths and general fleet-footedness move away from breaks and towards bassline-centred, still en vogue disco-punk, making its chart credentials even stronger. Breaks heads be easy: your knuckles will turn whiter and whiter as the track moves through the gears, promise. Alternatively, be on the look out for a clattering “Fucked Up/Spat Out” mix on the DL if you’re after a drop of the rough stuff. TomCraft backs up with a nicely heated piece of 4/4 umbrage, and Control Z and Pyramid fire off a clean assortment of lazer basses. Don’t share AH’s apathy and check.
