If you live in the capital and don’t yet know about Bethnal Green’s Oval Space, then you definitely should find out as the cultural hub that hosted Scuba’s epic live show last November have announced the launch of their 2013 music programme and a stellar line-up of names it is too. Fusing seminal electronic artists with the multi-‐purpose warehouse aesthetic that has been so crucial to the rise of East London’s art movements the Oval Space has fast become one of London’s most ambitious and coolest spaces to be in.
With Ben UFO due Saturday the 23rd and a sold out Atoms for Peace gig imminent we’re looking forward to some of their March dates and have decided to shine a spotlight on two in particular- that we think are absolute gems in the London calender. March 1st sees Fritz Kalkbrenner make a rare London appearance for the UK leg of his 44 date tour just behind the corner of Hackney Road and Mare Street. His soulful overtures over electronic beats will be supported by the fast rising star and DT favorite jozif; who’ll be looking to make movements of his own in what we predict to be a big 2013, Chopstick & Johnjon and Fritz Zander for a night not to be missed.
The following week on Thursday March 7th sees the warehouse space welcome Cobblestone Jazz perform one of their acclaimed live shows. For those less familiar with their work they need little introduction in the world of techno -‐ Danuel Tate, Tyger Dhula and Wagon Repair founder Mathew Johnson, single-‐handedly reinvented techno with their live 4/4 experiments blurring the boundaries between improvisational jazz, minimal techno and deep house. Cobblestone Jazz have continued to refine and evolve their sound, staying true to their influences and sounding as forward thinking today as back in 2002. After more than a decade, they are due to release their third studio album via !K7 / Wagon Repair this Spring -‐ with a renewed live set also prepared, coming at a pivotal time in the resurgence of live, analogue electronic music. With support coming from NinjaTunes Falty DL and James Priestly this looks to be just about one of the best line-ups we’ve ever seen on a Thursday.
