LABEL : Smalltown Supersound
Hans-Peter Lindstrøm is a Norwegian producer who works under the name Lindstrøm. He is also the founder of Feedelity label, 'Smalhans' is the follow-up to his last album, 'Six Cups Of Rebel' and was mixed by Terje Olsen (Todd Terje).
Where as 'Six Cups Of Rebel'explored a more experimental side of the producers work, with it's fusion of medieval themes and disco, 'Smalhans' is a return to the much more accessible 'Space Disco' side of Lindstrøm which he made his name with.
The album is made-up of six tracks, which seems like a scarce amount for album. However, you need not worry, it's all killer and there is definitely no filler. It kicks-off with 'Rà-àkõ-st’ the type of track that will no doubt please fans of his 2008 release ,'Where You Go I Go Too'. This is Lindstrøm at his playful best and the album breezes along very well in this manner.
Perhaps one of the biggest highlights of the album is, 'Faar-i-kaal’ a track the very much invokes the early stylings of fellow Norwegians Röyksopp and perhaps, it's Lindstrøm beating them at their own game. You'll be hard pushed to find a track that blends electronica and disco as good as this track does.
If there is one criticism of the album, it's that 'Vos-Sako-Rv' might be a little too 'wacky' for some peoples tastes, it's a fine line though and whilst it's not the strongest track on the album, it is on an album that is pretty much perfect and see's a producer at the height of powers. Not one to be missed...
