M.F.S Observatory- Division EP

CFL004_Hi_res.jpgLabel: Cat for LunchScore: 8/10

Cat for Lunch come straight off the traps here with a 4-track affair that’s bursting with layers of discordant, off-kilter excellence. The Milanese label, founded by stalwarts of the local scene, Metrophonique, has busy bubbling away for the past few months, turning their hand to a serious of prolific house and techno records.

Neapolitan outfit M.F.S Observatory continue the release’s rich vein of form here with the ‘Division’ EP. The title track struts with a substantial layer of ‘peak-time’ percussion and a sense-heightening vocal, with the combination one that drags the listener straight into the heart of Naples’ underground.

“Goal” is another record primed for the peak-time slot, with its brutal onslaught of rhythmic drums and sporadic Samuel L.Jackson sample standing out alongside its cascading synth hooks.

Alex Costa’s seething remix of “Division” offers the first of the remixes, but it’s label heads Metrophonique who serve up the package’s highlight with their shrewd interpretation of “Goal” that harks back to vintage planes. An EP that’s sure to cause dancefloor consternation.
