James Murphy Suing former DFA Partner Tim Goldsworthy
Contrary to common belief running an electronic music imprint doesn’t always appear to be a bed of roses and it’s not only Hip Hop and R&B that has it’s fair share of disputes within modern music. Outwardly DFARecords seemed the happiest of campers but with news that LCDSoundsystem’s James Murphy is suing fellow label founder Tim Goldsworth it appears beneath the surface all was not well.
After founding the label in 2001 alongside Goldsworth and Jonathon Galkin, the LCDSoundsystem frontman has revealed that he is suing the former for $94,000accusing him of “failing to perform services he was paid for, owing outstanding loans, improperly using the company credit card and making unauthorized withdrawals from its bank accounts”.
The lawsuit was filed on Friday March 1 in Manhattan Civil Supreme Court, and claims that ”attempts to amicably resolve this matter were rebuffed” by Goldsworthy. We hate it when things get ugly at DT and it seems this one could be set to run and run. We hope they can work it out and so on a brighter note suggest we listen to some LCDSoundsystem!
