Fat Freddy’s Drop album release date confirmed
August 24
th has been confirmed as the release date for Fat Freddy’s Drop’s second album,
Dr. Boondigga & The Big BW.
Released on their own label The Drop, it’s a phenomenal set that moves on from their soul, reggae and hip-hop origins and melds in splashes of house and techno into the mix, with some epic extended tracks topic 10 minutes long. It almost makes up for the fact that they’ve cancelled two European tours in as many years. Almost.
‘We’ve absorbed a few influences along the way: Berlin Bashment, Portuguese Top Forty, Tooting Bhangra Beat and Montmartre TV Shop Techno Hi-Life’, reports trumpet player Tony Chang about global findings while on tour.
‘There was no external pressure. Only the self pressure to naturally progress, improve & take the music somewhere fresh’ says DJ Fitchie, producer.
‘We didn’t go in with any preconceptions. We’re better songwriters now and we’ve moved away from the big long jams that are better left for live performance’
It’s very much worth the wait, and makes for an essential purchase.
