It’s official. Vinyl is on its way out for good. Why? Panasonic have announced that they will soon be stopping production of the industry standard Technics 1200 and 1210 turntables. :(
Panasonic spokesman Ian North said in a press release, “It is a sad day today, but due to low sales globally in analogue turntables a decision to stop production has been made on Technics Turntables.” They’ve sold over 3 million units since launching in 1972 and revolutionising the art of DJing. Production will halt in February 2010, so if you want a fresh pair, get’em in now. A sad day indeed. Sadder still ‘cos I just sold mine. D’oh.
