Technics to stop production

It’s official. Vinyl is on its way out for good. Why? Panasonic have announced that they will soon be stopping production of the industry standard Technics 1200 and 1210 turntables.

:(

Panasonic spokesman Ian North said in a press release, “It is a sad day today, but due to low sales globally in analogue turntables a decision to stop production has been made on Technics Turntables.”

They’ve sold over 3 million units since launching in 1972 and revolutionising the art of DJing. Production will halt in February 2010, so if you want a fresh pair, get’em in now.

A sad day indeed. Sadder still ‘cos I just sold mine. D’oh.
