Aim re-issues his 2 classic albums
Downtempo hip-hop/trip-hop don Aim re-releases his classic albums ‘Cold Water Music’ (which sold over 100,000 copies) and ‘Hinterland’ through his own label ATIC Records this Monday 4th February, after winning back the rights for the material from his old label Grand Central. The re-issued albums both feature bonus tracks that featured on the single releases, so there’s something new for long-time fans too.
Andy “Aim” Turner explained the reasons behind the re-release: "Not long after starting ATIC Records it became apparent that my old label, Grand Central, was winding up and that I was going to get the rights back to all my old songs, so we soon started talking about re-releasing my first two albums,” says Andy. “I wanted to differentiate them from the original releases without affecting what made people like them in the first place. All the singles from the original albums had new and exclusive tracks on them so we decided to add these to the relevant LPs. As they were recorded during the same period I was pretty confident they would work but I was surprised and excited by how well they sit within the context of the original records. Listening through it's almost like adding these new songs has made the original albums complete.”
This will be followed on February 11th by a new 4-tracker, ‘Birchwood EP’, which features 2 brand-new tracks alongside ‘Birchwood’ from his last album ‘Flight 602’, and a Gripper remix of ‘Northwest’. For the rest of the year, Aim will work on other ATIC Records projects – including production work for Niko’s album (who can be heard on ‘Northwest’) and for Gripper’s album too. His live show with a full band has been smacking it over the last few years, drawing a bigger crowd to the Jazz World stage at Glastonbury than Amy Winehouse did.
