We Rewind/The Test

By: Flore
Label: Botchit & Scarper
Written by: Matty O
Rating: 7/10

Rodney P, at ease and in charge as ever, directs dub dusting from Flore, the Riddim Killa really making the beat his as he’s been prone to doing for like, forever. That’s also to say that it’s not particularly adventurous fare from his production match. An ample dub-washed ducker, laced with enhanced synth touches and lapped up by its guest, and in giving the benefit of the doubt, a collaboration that assumes RP doesn’t need much to work with to get things going in full flight.

Maybe Flore is onto something though. From up her sleeve she despatches rave-house breaks on the club mix, which can only lead to one thing: the inevitable squelch, squawk and stoopid freshness of a fidget-coloured bouncy castle that’s the happy, drag and dribble aftermath. Balloons going off all over the shop, Rodney P chopped up like a B-more pro - it’s a party on a pogo stick

Shunda K of female trash-talking duo Yo! Majesty, rolls up to rush her gums on We Rewind on a less fun but more physical, Baltimore meets Brazil rap ruckus; the cue for tailbones to get into tailspins, encouraging a circle to envelope the most outrageous scowl-worn, sweat-soaked wormhole dislocations. Much like Yo! Majesty’s output Flore’s funk carioca is not getting through to you with its charm, but its testing of you to go hard with its thigh-slapping, tub-thumping, hip-rave-slumdog movements.
