Marking the launch of the Respekt imprint, rising techno duo and label founders Spektre (Paul Maddox & Richard Wakley) join forces with Matt Cooper on the debut single Cuernos Cubanos EP.
Kick-starting the EP is the title track Cuernos Cubanos, a dark and techy affair built around a throbbing bassline and cascading tribal drums. Plus the brooding, floor-shaking horns and high-tension breakdowns, this track is without question a monster.
Kicking K then takes a more stripped-down and twisted direction with its bleepy sirens and distorted vox, whilst the solid techy beats drive the track forward and the huge, atmospheric breakdown sustains the dark vibe of Cuernos Cubanos.
The rest of this five-tracker consists of DJ tools, including the horns, vocal parts and percussion on those 2 tracks, adding some depth to the EP.
On the production side, 2009 has been a great year for Spektre, and with such a strong debut release on their label, their future looks rather promising.
