This release embodies what techno means to me. It's about "not too melodic, but not boring" structures that sound like they've fallen from somewhere out of the future. It's about drum patterns that make the big 909s in the sky very happy indeed. It's about absolutely losing your mind in the churning, relentless beat.
Butch's own edits of the track - entitled East and West - offer nicely contrasting interpretations of the same material. It's fantatic to see them both included in the release, because they really complement each other and, from a DJ perspective, having this one in your record box means that you can choose the edit to suit your crowd. After a long line of jaw-dropping releases, it's Popof that steals the show, however: harder and faster than Butch's offerings, this one has got "main room techno" written all over it. Absoultely stunning - this is one of my tracks of 2008. If you liked On The Line, you need this. If you hated it, you probably still need this pretty bad.
