Double Penetrator 2008

By: Karlzee
Label: Nutty Trance
Written by: dean zone
Rating: 9/10

Double Penetrator by Karlzee was quite possibly one of my favourite tracks in 2006, alongside an awesome Nutty Trance remix. A few months back I heard that this was getting the remix treatment, and have been waiting with baited breath ever since for this to land in my inbox. Now I have it, was it worth the wait?

I will start with the Sully remix. The man from Wales is currently one of if not the most on form producer of the last 12 months, making German Hard Trance better than even the Germans. This latest effort certainly doesn’t disappoint. Beginning with his usual double kick intro and trademark style of percussion, it builds up to a bass intro with excellent use of kicks, snares, and the most awesome swooping sounds that somehow seems to morph into a stabbing synth. The bass is quite possibly his fattest made yet too and sounds nothing short of immense. The main break uses lush yet bassy pads, followed by the now customary break beat sequence and subtle pianos, before unleashing a lethal synth, building perfectly with a combination of kicks and snares. If this doesn’t destroy the dance floor, then you’re playing to the wrong crowd.

Next up is the Nick the Kid remix. A pacey intro with some excellent use of little sounds and fills, before the bass introduction. At first I thought that the bass was a little on the weak side, but after another 2 phrases the real bass comes in and is thankfully much stronger. The main riff enters at a much earlier point and the depth of sound in general is of a very high standard. The break, much like the original mixes, relies heavily on the piano with lots of reverb. Lush pads help to provide a breakdown that is on a much more uplifting tip, before a slightly over cooked sequence of kicks and snares can’t quite match the energy of the drop. Still a bloody good effort though, and a excellent remix for the non-peak time set!

The last remix is provided by label boss Nutty T, and is aptly titled as the Acid Remix. Nothing like his original remix of 2 years ago, it’s a pounding hardstyle monster, complete with hard bass, minimal percussion and some seriously fierce naughtiness going on! The break drops practically straight from the tune whilst in full flight, and as such sounds like there is something missing. The first part of the riff is almost exactly how it was made, before the Acid of the title rears its head.

Ok so it doesn’t have the depth of the other two, but it’s suitably meaty, and an excellent alternative on the track.
