Kick N Run Ep

By: Don Rimini
Label: Mental Groove
Written by: Belle_DIA
Rating: 10/10

Don Rimini doesn't sleep. He doesn't eat and he certainly doesn't watch Britain's Got Talent. What he does do is make music and a lot of it. It feels like we've only just come down from his last EP on which the track Let Me Back Up took the world by storm. And now he's here again, unleashing another tiny bundle of energy on our asses.

Anyone thinking an EP is just an extended single would be wrong and Monsieur Rimini shows us exactly how it should be done. This EP is more like a mini-album with five tracks lovingly created to compliment each other and tell a story. A story about a guy who misses the old school rave scene in Paris, and so tries to recreate it with jaw- dropping effect.

Rimini has found his sound now and it's an acid-techno electrorama that pays excellent homage to the rave kings that have gone before him. It's not hard to tell on first listen what the anthem will be from this EP; Nervous Breakdown is a stormer of a track that will surely send the most packed of crowds into an absolute frenzy. With space-age stabs and an energy to rival the Duracell Bunny, this will be the Let Me Back Up of this EP.

But that's not to say the other tracks fall short in anyway, they occupy a different territory - Rave On keeps the old-school vibe but strips it down over a bouncier beat that will fit nicely into the more Baltimore of sets. Hools, however, is where Rimini brings out a new fiercer side to his music with a heavy metal side that would sit comfortably on a SebastiAn release.

A great EP that is full of peak-time set punishers, frantic and euphoric this EP is not for the easy listener. With each track Rimini releases you can hear a different facet to his production and Kick N Run is no exception.
