The highly anticipated second album from Mike Monday has just dropped, and in support of the album launch the first single to see the the light of day will be, I Am Plankton with an aptly named Glug, Glug, Dub remix.
The original steps itself up to an unknown sub genre of the elctronica, leftfield bracket. Strange and wonderful aquarium and beach noises instantly whack the avid listener in to a dream world of shell fish, bubbling treasure chests and plastic divers. Sinister strings and a bubble bursting lead help the track along from the start with an orchestral sitar phrase for good measure.
When the bass drops it plods along with a two/four, kick, snare and bass section which builds anticipation with interesting sequencing for the break down. The breakdown is intelligently written and a second lead swings with the percussion as the track bumbles along. Although the track itself is clever, fresh, fun and different it does have a certain ring tone feel to it that lends itself to an album track and adverts as appose to night clubs and dance floors.
The Glug, Glug, Dub remix is my money shot, it's a far more interesting piece of techno that makes my mind wonder to all corners of the genre when i listen to it. It's just so loopy and delicious!
The track uses the samples from original with incredible precision to create a monstrous, floor filling, rip roaring, techno romper that builds and builds. The bubbles, the waves and the strings are all in there but with an incredible sine bass and some quality swung percussion acting as a back drop it puts the original to shame.
